New Year – Four Seasons
The beginning of a new year is always a moment for reflection, hope, and fresh starts—and this art-with-music session captured all of that beautifully through the theme of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
Outside, the air carried a sharp winter chill. Inside the care home, however, the atmosphere could not have been more different. The space was warm, welcoming, and filled with anticipation as residents gathered for an immersive sensory experience celebrating all four seasons at once.
Spring arrived first through a stunning floral display. Pots of bulbs and year-round blooms transformed the room, delighting the senses and lifting spirits. The fresh scent of daffodils filled the air, while vibrant yellows and lush greens created a joyful visual focus. The flowers set the tone perfectly—bright, hopeful, and full of life—inviting creativity to flow.
As brushes were prepared and paints laid out, the sound of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons gently filled the room. The familiar classical melodies sparked recognition, with residents humming, tapping, and even singing along. The music created a calm yet uplifting backdrop, encouraging connection, memory, and a shared sense of joy. Classical music has a unique power to soothe while energising the creative spirit, and its effect was clear.
The energy in the room became vibrant as the painting began. Each resident was given a pre-prepared board of thick watercolour paper, ready to explore the changing seasons. A strong tree trunk with sweeping brown branches formed the base of each artwork. From left to right, the four seasons unfolded across the branches:
Spring emerged with delicate pink buds
Summer bloomed in sunny yellow blossoms
Autumn glowed with warm orange leaves
Winter settled quietly with bare branches dusted in snow
Each painting told its own story, yet together they formed a powerful visual celebration of time, change, and continuity. The finished artworks were truly magnificent.
To close the session, everyone proudly shared their paintings. Applause filled the room, smiles were exchanged, and a wonderful sense of achievement was felt by all. The artworks were then displayed on the mantelpiece—transforming the space into a gallery of creativity, expression, and seasonal beauty.
It was, in every sense, a delightful afternoon—one that warmed hearts, sparked memories, and set a positive, creative tone for the year ahead.
