Wonderful Woodland Garlands for Autumn Activities

At SFYC we believe creative experiences can transform everyday moments into lasting memories. This Autumn, we hosted a wreath-making workshop that brought the colours, textures and scents of the season right into the care home.

Residents worked with natural materials – golden leaves, corn stems and ornamental gourds – to design their own garlands. The activity encouraged self-expression, conversation and gentle sensory stimulation.

The results were joyful: every participant completed a wreath, each finished with a gold bow and personalised Autumn greeting. Residents proudly displayed their creations during afternoon tea, sharing in the satisfaction of a collective achievement.

The workshop reinforced how seasonal, hands-on activities can:

  • Boost wellbeing and creativity

  • Spark conversation and reminiscence

  • Strengthen community between residents, staff and families

  • Enhance the care home’s reputation as a stimulating, engaging place to live

As one dear resident summed it up: “That was excellent, thank you!”
